Looking for an interesting way to spend the first Saturday of the new year? Want to kick 2008 off with some culture? You're in luck -- This weekend the Brooklyn Museum will be open to the public, free of charge, for its monthly "Target First Saturday" party.

Visit the museum from 5pm to 11pm for free art, entertainment, and dancing. Highlights this month include a screening of the documentary "Watch Can You Hear Me?", a film about the struggles of women in the Middle East, and a discussion with Lilly Rivlin, its creator; live music from New York group Ayyoub; a performance by Suheir Hammad of Def Poetry Jam; a showing of the Iranian movie "Children of Heaven"; gallery talks; a hands-on art session; and a dance party.

The Museum Café will be open, and visitors will be able to buy beer and wine. The Brooklyn Museum is located at 200 Eastern Parkway. Call (718) 638-5000 for more information.

(1) Steve :

I would like to be able to contact Kristen Goode, the About.com guide for Brooklyn, NY.

There are some errors in her article on Atlantic Yards that I would like to discuss with her.

Sorry that this post is off-topic, but I’m unable to locate Ms. Goode’s email address on the About.com site.

You can reach her I think at brooklyn.guide@about.com
I’ve been meaning to write her too. A lot of her content looks like it’s pinched from the Brooklyn Papers and other sources – but I just stopped reading for the most part. There are much better-written Brooklyn sites.
