It shouldn't come as a surprise that a media mogul like Rupert Murdoch would be the person poised to save one of Brooklyn's last standing independent newspapers, but when I found out today that Murdoch has just indeed bought The Brooklyn Paper, I was surprised. Murdoch already owns Brooklyn's Courier-Life chain, which means that his News Corporation (owner of properties like the New York Post and the Wall Street Journal) will now control the vast majority of Brooklyn's printed news.
Brooklynites are already wondering what this means: Many, according to The Brooklyn Optimist, are "deeply disturbed at the total media consolidation of New York City's biggest borough - especially since all the papers will now be under the control of the ultra-conversative FOX News baron."
What do you think? Is The Brooklyn Paper (which calls itself "Brooklyn's Real Newspaper") as we know it a thing of the past?

Not quite. The Brooklyn Eagle — the last independent paper in Brooklyn — is a respected borough-wide daily paper; they also put out a weekly Brooklyn Eagle, along with their various other papers like the Brooklyn Heights Press.
