Where: Borough Hall, St. Francis College, Brooklyn Historical Society, St. Ann and the Holy Trinity Church and Columbus Park.

What It Is: Attended by as many as 35,000 people last year, the Brooklyn Book Festival is billed as "the largest free literary event in New York City presenting an array of literary stars and emerging authors who represent the exciting world of literature today."

How It Works: The Festival is organized around themed readings and features free panel discussions, outdoor readings on a main stage, and the chance to meet your favorite writer.  Prominent national and international authors are featured. It's family friendly: there's also a "Target Children's Area" sponsored by Target,  and special events for teens.

Browse the Literary Marketplace: Book lovers should not miss the huge display of books set up in picturesque stalls by local and national bookstores, publishers and literary organizations, called the "Literary Marketplace." This marketplace is not just about selling, it's also a chance to meet and discuss books with like-minded readers.

What's New in 2012? Technology! A new app to guide Festival-goers through the plethora of literary events taking place during the Brooklyn Book Festival's extended literary weekend.

Sponsors: The Brooklyn Book Festival is an initiative of Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz and is presented by the Brooklyn Literary Council and Brooklyn Tourism. AT&T is the first major presenting sponsor of the 2012 festival.
