Apologies for this Ad on Brooklyn About.com

To my readers:  The laptop/desktop version of this home page of the Brooklyn About.com site seems, as of Wednesday evening, August 15th,  to feature an advertisement that I personally have no control over, and find offensive. It shows a young black man covered with tattoos, with copy that states, "Arrest records now public. Do you know that arrest records are publicly available online?" The link leads to a site called "InstantCheckMate.com."

My apologies to anyone who sees this ad and also finds it racist and inappropriate, which is probably all of Brooklyn.

I have written About.com management about this and ask that this ad not be shown on a site I write for. --Ellen Freudenheim

I feel very strongly that this type of stereotyping is discriminatory and
should not be tolerated, ever!
