Everyone's making predictions about Sunday's Oscar awards: yellow taxi cab riders, and even Nate Silver, the FiveThirtyEight political pundit from the NY Times. But hey, they disagree! About 100,000 NYC taxi customers, according to a totally unscientific poll released for fun by the Taxi and Limousine Commission (run by Brooklynite David Yassky) overwhelmingly voted for Lincoln. But in his usual mind-bendingly painstaking way, Nate Silver ends up predicting that Argo will win, hands down.
This year's contestants were all hugely popular box office hits in Brooklyn: Amour, Argo, Beasts of the Southern Wild, Django Unchained, Les Misérables, Life of Pi, Lincoln, Silver Linings Playbook, Zero Dark Thirty.
From the NYC Taxi and Limousine Commission, here are the predictions of cab-riders who voted:
- Best Picture: Steven Spielberg's historical drama Lincoln with Zero Dark Thirty a far second.
- Best actor: Again, Lincoln stole riders hearts; they voted for Daniel Day Lewis.
- Best Actress: The higest vote was for Jessica Chastain in Zero Dark Thirty followed bt Jennifer Lawrence in Silver Linings Playbook.
- Best Director : Steven Spielberg for Lincoln
