Brooklyn's Medgar Evers College is hosting a rich menu of events to celebrate African American History Month.

All events are free and open to the public.

CALENDAR OF AFRICAN AMERICAN HISTORY MONTH EVENTS, FEBRUARY 1-4, 2012

Medgar Evers' events follow the theme African-American Trailblazers, Pioneers and Educators. Programs feature events that run the gamut, and, according to the college's event organizers "celebrating their cultural contributions through film screenings, videos, book readings, storytelling, artistic creations, and song/dance performances; to critical explorations (such as panel discussions, and featured lectures), of the political and socio-economic advancements made since the heyday of the civil rights era."

Opening Event
11:30am-12:45pm Edison O. Jackson Auditorium
President William Pollard will give the opening address to launch the College’s month-long calendar of exciting and educational programs and activities.

Artists’ Talk: The Renaissance of Black History Exhibit
1:00pm-2:30pm AB1 Lobby and Art Gallery Room
Guest speaker Ed Sherman will converse about the works displayed and the historical significance of the pieces at the African-American Renaissance of Black History exhibit – a stunning collection of art from a selection of established and renowned artists.

Grand Opening: The Renaissance of Black History Exhibit
6:00pm-8:00pm AB1 Gallery/ “S” Building-3rd Floor/Charles Evans Inniss Memorial Library
The College community and community residents are invited to the grand opening of The Renaissance of Black History exhibit – a collection of art that beautifully illustrates a wide range of people and events in African-American history. Artists will provide their personal perspectives on their works.

By car from Queens: Grand Central to Jackie Robinson Parkway (formerly Interboro Parkway); JRP to Jamaica Avenue (becomes East New York Avenue); right onto Howard Avenue; left onto Eastern Parkway; proceed approximately 2 miles and then turn left onto Bedford.
By Subway to Carroll Street Building: IRT 7th Ave. Express No. 2 or 5 to President Street, or No. 3 to Nostrand Ave.
