Which President, Anyway?
The official name of this annual February American holiday is still Washington's Birthday. But everyone calls it Presidents Day.
Presidents Day, observed in February, is a holiday originally celebrating not one but two events, which both fell in February: both President Abe Lincoln and President George Washington's birthdays (Lincoln was born on February 12; Washington was born on February 17.) Years ago, these holidays were celebrated separately, but in 1971, for the sake of convenience they were combined, and the holiday is generally called, simply, Presidents Day.
