Brooklyn Bridge Park is Located in...Well, Brooklyn Bridge Park
Brooklyn Bridge Park is adjacent to the neighborhood of DUMBO. It's located on the East River waterfront, across from the South Street Seaport in Manhattan. The entrance is close to Fulton Landing, near the River Cafe. It stretches all the way to Atlantic Avenue. But who will "get" wonderful Brooklyn Bridge Park? Brooklyn Heights or DUMBO?See the description of Brooklyn Bridge Park.
As of 2011 yet has a name for this waterfront area, other than "Brooklyn Bridge Park."
What's in a Name?
As Brooklyn Bridge Park expands and develops, the neighborhood naming game shall begin. Why? Because having a specific neighborhood name is good for real estate sales, marketing and local identity.Brooklyn Bridge Park, a waterfront area with zillion-dollar Manhattan views, is likely to be home, sooner or later, to a hotel and maybe apartments, too, in order to help pay for the park itself. The commercial value of a good neighborhood name is invaluable.
And, in Brooklyn, parks certainly do get associated with one neighborhood or another. For instance, Prospect Park, though it abuts many neighborhoods, is most closely associated with Park Slope. And that association is hugely valuable in the world of real estate transactions, neighborhood image, and perceived value.
So, will this boundary-straddling park give rise to another new hybrid Brooklyn neighborhood with its own name? Likely so. It could be Dumbo-Heights, perhaps? Or D-Heights? Dumb-O-Brooklyn?
