Question: When are St. Patrick's Day Parades in Park Slope & Bay Ridge, Brooklyn?
When and where are St. Patrick's Parades in Brooklyn in 2014?
For as long as anyone can remember, Brooklyn has held not one, but two St. Patrick's Day Parades, on consecutive Sundays. Both are scheduled to not coincide with the big Manhattan St. Pat's parade. Expect bagpipes, kilts, tons of green, and lots of good cheer.
Whoops...MAKE THAT THREE ST. PATRICK'S DAY PARADES IN BROOKLYN.....In 2014, we discovered a third, a small community parade in Gerritsen Beach. This is notable because of the destruction wrought in 2012 by Superstorm Hurricane Sandy on the The Ancient Order of Hibernians (AOH) Hall which, local news reports said had been flooded with four feet of water. According to the Canarsie Courier, "The first AOH chapter opened in Brooklyn in the 1840’s, and Division 19 of the AOH was formed in Gerritsen Beach in 1948. In 1979, an AOH Hall was established at 2750 Gerritsen Avenue."
