Labor Day in Brooklyn

1. Thur-Mon Sept 1-5: Labor Day West Indian American Day Carnival & Parade

Don't miss this major New York City parade!  Preceeded by days of pre-events, including a viewing of the steel drums  held at the Brooklyn Museum,  the actual parade itself is held on Labor Day Monday. It takes place on Eastern Parkway in Brooklyn.

You won't soon forget the costumes and marchers wearing extravagant feathered head dresses, floats, marching bands, steel band music, vendors selling roti and other local street food, live performers up and down Eastern Parkway. It's drawn up to two million visitors. 

2. Fri Sept 2: Beach Campfire at Jamaica Bay (Free)

From  7:30 PM to 9:30 PM  you can sneak over the Brooklyn-Queens border to Jacob Riis Park Bay 14 (Boardwalk and Beach 169 St. and participate in a campfire experience. There are also educational talks about the natural and historical treasures found at the park. Plus,  an old fashioned sing-along! Bring a chair or blanket, and a musical instrument, if you have one!

3. Sun Sept 4: Habana Outpost Annual Back-to-School Bash for Kids & Families (FREE)

Part restaurant, part community cultural hub, Habana Outpost is holding its annual Back To School Bash for kids and families. Fun for all!

4. Sun & Mon, Sept 4 & 5: Labor Day Family Events at Brooklyn Bridge Park

Bring the kids for crafts fun. You make flags and other projects on Sunday and Monday in two sessions, noon to 2 p.m. and 4 to 6 p.m.

5. Sat & Sun, Sept 3 & 4: Bell House Events: "Take This Job and Shove It!"

Have a blast. On Saturday of Labor Day weekend, come to the Moulin Rouge Sing Along; on Sunday, you can attend "Take This Job and Shove It!  Get details
