Fleet Week 2013 cancelled due to Congressional budget cuts

In past years, The U.S. Navy, as part of Fleet Week, has held diving demonstrations and static displays of EOD and diving equipment at the Wildlife Conservation Society’s New York Aquarium. Divers from the Navy’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) and will show off unique diving capabilities that keep America safe. Demonstrations will include open-circuit SCUBA and closed-circuit MK-16 re-breather diving systems, both commonly used by Navy EOD divers for fleet operations. Along with the demos, Navy officials answer questions from the public. The demonstrations will take place near the Aquarium Plaza.
Navy Divers are the foremost experts in all types of diving operations in the U.S. military and serve as the single resource managers for diving technical knowledge and training across the entire Department of Defense (DOD).
Navy EOD and divers are part of Navy Expeditionary Combat Command (NECC). NECC serves as the Navy’s headquarters for all Navy expeditionary capabilities to include: EOD, Seabees, Riverine, Mobile Diving and Salvage, and other expeditionary support capabilities. NECC forces are deployed around the globe in support of a wide range of missions from major combat operations to humanitarian assistance response. 8. Mon May 27: Free Memorial Day Concert in Green-Wood Cemetery & Trolley Tour
Outdoor Free Concert; Bring a Picnic Blanket
Green-Wood’s annual Memorial Day concert has become a true neighborhood favorite. TThis year Green-Wood celebrates 15 years of bringing Memorial Day music to visitors from all over the area. The concert features the ISO Symphonic Band, founded in 1995 to sponsor talented students throughout New York City. Each year the concert features the works of Green-Wood’s permanent residents Fred Ebb, Louis Moreau Gottschalk, Leonard Bernstein, and many others.Bring a blanket and enjoy this early summer performance. Food and refreshments will be on sale all day. The concert is a free event. Groups should register in advance.
Trolley Tour of Green-Wood
A trolley “mini-tour” begins right after the concert, featuring highlights of Green-Wood, including De Witt Clinton’s bronze statue, Battle Hill and the Civil War Soldiers’ Lot.This special trolley tour is led by Green-Wood Historian Jeff Richman. The tour is $10 for members of The Green-Wood Historic Fund and $15 for non-members. Seating is limited. The Kings County Memorial Day Parade, the oldest in the country, steps off at 11 AM on May 28 at 87th Street and 3rd Avenue in Bay Ridge, marching on 3rd Avenue, Marine Avenue and 4th Avenue to John Paul Jones Park, for ceremonies.The theme for the 2013 parade is “Lest We Forget.”
