Valentine's Weekend Itinerary in Brooklyn

Brooklyn's NY Transit Museum is collecting love stories of people who met "in transit."

Only in Brooklyn.

Make a weekend of Valentine's doing things you can only do in Brooklyn. Here's a Brooklyn itinerary of hearty, heartfelt, and heart-friendly things to do this February 10-14, 2012.

Start Valentine's Day weekend 2012 on Friday night, and take your hothouse flower of a date to the Brooklyn Botanic Garden's February extravaganza, LUSH, for a night of drinks, Latin dancing, and serious orchid-oogling ($65).

Saturday, head back to the same part of Brooklyn for a session at the Brooklyn Museum to make your own unique Valentine collage ($15 plus museum entry; kids welcome but this is for adults).

Saturday at happy hour time, head to BAMCafe, and stay till about 9:45 to hear musician Mo Beasley do his "Love Storm" set.(This event is free unless you buy food or drinks.)

Then hop onto the subway down to DUMBO to Galapagos' sexy cabaret extravaganza, complete with an indoor lake, for an evening of entertainment and drinks ($20). Nip into Jacques Torres beforehand to pick up some hand made, to die for Valentine's Day chocolates.

You can sleep in on Sunday, and resume the festivities on Monday by throwing an air kiss in the direction of the married couples with stamina, who will be celebrating their 50th wedding anniversaries in mid afternoon with Marty Markowitz in Mill Basin.

Tuesday is actually THE day, Valentine's Day. Attend the BNY Transit Museum's Missed Connections underground party with local literati and transportation buffs, including music by Music Under New York performers, and refreshments by Brooklyn Brewery, free and mostly for adults.

Then catch a (real) train back to Fort Greene, where you can settle into dinner and a movie at BAM's Rose Cinemas, to watch a funny 1940s classic film movie about, of course, falling in love.

Happy Valentine's Day!
