This flea market and craft fair opened in 2003 on North 6th Street. After seven years in that warehouse, it moved to a larger space on North 7th between Wythe and Kent. With over twenty vendors selling everything from vintage clothing to handmade jewelry, this flea market has been a neighborhood favorite for weekend browsing.

It's hard to miss Artists & Fleas, with its light bulb framed sign and the crowds that surround the entrance. Outside you'll find a food truck and a Stumptown Coffee cart. Stop in for a browse. If you're interested in a whole day of flea markets, go on a Sunday afternoon so you can continue down to the Brooklyn Flea, set up just across Kent Avenue near the water.

Vendors

About 75% of Artists & Fleas vendors are vintage sellers - clothing, shoes, and handbags, mostly for women. Handmade jewelry, clothing and crafts are also well-represented: silk-screened T-shirts, prints and stationery. The largest vendors (selling clothing) are the mainstays of the flea market, but there's a fair amount of change as new vendors come and go.

Amenities

Most vendors only accept cash, and there is an ATM near the door for your convenience. Some, however, do accept credit cards under the condition that they must then charge you tax on the item. A plus of Artists & Fleas (in comparison to an outdoor flea market) is that it's open rain or shine, and there are three dressing rooms. There are also two bathrooms and a sink.

Food

There is a great selection of snacks, perfect for a light lunch while shopping at Artists & Fleas. The Brooklyn Taco company is usually in attendance inside, and often you'll find a falafel truck outside. Mini cupcakes are for sale, along with other cookies and sweet treats. If you're still hungry, amble over to Smorgasburg, the Williamsburg food market open on Saturdays just around the corner.

Becoming a Vendor

If you are more interested in selling rather than buying, you can apply to become a vendor at Artists & Fleas. They accept applications year round, but ask that you apply at least 2-3 weeks before you'd like to begin business. More information on space and pricing is available at their website, www.artistsandfleas.com, but the average rental is $80 per day.
