History of The Meat Hook and The Brooklyn Kitchen:

Tired of working as a construction project manager, Taylor Erkkinen and her friend Harry Rosenblum started to brainstorm on the idea of opening their own kitchen supply store in 2005. Both amateur cooks, they had been inspired by the fact that it was difficult to find the right supplies and ingredients for more ambitious cooking adventures. Their goal was to open a store with affordable goods that would not only provide the instruments of cooking, but encourage people to learn how to cook as well.

Brent Young and Tom Mylan, both formerly of Marlow & Daughters, another butchery associated with Williamsburg restaurant Marlow & Sons, went off on their own last year to open The Meat Hook. Their goal was to provide Williamsburg with a less expensive, less "highflautin" option on where to buy their fresh meats.
