Brooklyn's Red Hook Ball Fields open this year on Saturday, May 2, when you'll be able to make your way to the South American street food haven for delicious treats ranging from just-off-the-grill snacks like quesadillas, tacos, pupusas, and tamales to fresh ceviche and horchatas.
The Red Hook Ball Fields are located at the corner of Clinton Street and Bay Street (158 Bay Street) in Brooklyn's Red Hook neighborhood, which isn't easily accessed via public transportation. Trust, me, though, the trek will be worth it!
The Ball Fields are generally open on Saturdays and Sundays from mid-morning to 10pm.
Getting to the Red Hook Ball Fields by Subway
There are no subway stations in the immediate vicinity of the Ball Fields, and the closest you'll get is the F/G station at Smith and 9th Street. From there, walk towards the water, take a left on Court Street under the BQE, take a right on Centre Street, and then a left onto Clinton Street. Walk until you hit Bay Street. This map will help you find your way.
Getting to the Red Hook Ball Fields by Bus (and Shuttle)
Two MTA public buses stop at nearby Ikea: the B77, which begins in Park Slope, and the B61, which runs from downtown Brooklyn. From Ikea, walk down Halleck Street away from the water, take a left onto Columbia Street, and then a right onto Bay Street, which will intersect with Clinton.
Free Ikea shuttle buses also run throughout the week: One stops at the 4th Avenue/9th Street F/D/M/R subway stop, and the other stops at the Borough Hall subway stop in Brooklyn Heights. These free Ikea shuttle buses run every 30 minutes from 3pm to 8pm on weekdays and every 20 minutes from 11am to 9pm on weekends.
The Red Hook Ball Fields are easily accessible by car, and Red Hook offers ample parking. You can get driving directions here.
