Dining Out With Kids

From , former About.com Guide

Most restaurants in Brooklyn are kid friendly, but some cater to families more than others. Below find information on dining establishments where kids--and parents--can enjoy a great meal out on the town.

Blue Ribbon Brooklyn

280 Fifth Ave, between 1st and Garfield Sts
(718) 840-0404

The eclectic food at Blue Ribbon, from its "crock o' fries" to its more sophisticated oven roasted duck, appeals to kids and parents alike. It's fine food, and it's perfectly geared towards families who may want to dine from the restaurant's raw bar while at the same time ordering a few of Brooklyn's best cheeseburgers for the kids, who will be happily entertaining themselves with the restaurant's complimentary crayons and paper.

Chip Shop

129 Atlantic Ave
(718) 855-7774

383 Fifth Ave
(718) 832-7701

With two locations in Brooklyn, this family favorite dishes out flakey fried fish and chips that are a big hit with kids and parents, too. The casual atmosphere, a special kids' menu, and early bird specials for family diners add to the appeal.

Pit Stop

127 Columbia St
(718) 875-4664

A friendly staff and plenty of space for kids to play makes this Carroll Gardens restaurant a perfect pick for families. With a garden and a petanque court out back, games for children, and a special menu for "junior racers," kids will feel at home, as will parents, who will enjoy Pit Stop's strong wine list and its more sophisticated dishes.

Surf

139 N. 6th St, near Bedford Ave
(718) 302-4441

Kids love this Williamsburg crab shack for its sand and colored lights. A wooden deck and a fun backyard make for good times. Don't pass up on one of Surf's delicious lobster rolls -- The tender meat wins praise from kids and adults alike.

Two Boots Pizzeria

514 2nd St
(718) 499-3253

There isn't a kid in Brooklyn who wouldn't love eating at Two Boots Pizzeria. Noisy and crowded, paper tablecloths and crayons come with dinner, there's often live music, and it's not unusual for a chef to hand out balls of pizza dough for kids to play with. Parents are pleased by the extensive (and delicious!) Cajun menu.
