Here are important Brooklyn school holidays and dates from the 2011-2012 NYC Public School Calendar.Note that the calendar below doesn't include special half days for pre-kindergarten and kindergarten students.
- Wednesday, September 8: SCHOOL YEAR BEGINS
- Thursday-Friday: September 29 & 30th: NO SCHOOL! Rosh Hashanah
- Monday, October 10: NO SCHOOL! Columbus Day
- Tuesday, November 8: NO SCHOOL! Election Day
- Friday, November 11: NO SCHOOL! Veterans' Day
- Thursday, November 24-Friday, November 25: NO SCHOOL! Thanksgiving Break
- Monday through Monday: December 26- January 2, 2012: NO SCHOOL! Winter Break
- Tuesday, January 3, 2012 SCHOOL RESUMES. All students return to school
- Monday, January 16: NO SCHOOL! Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday
- Monday, January 30: NO SCHOOL for HIGH SCHOOL ONLY! End of Fall Term Holiday (other students do have school)
- Tues January 31: Spring Term begins for high school
- Friday, February 10: School is open. All students expected to be in attendance.
- Monday, February 13: School is open. All students expected to be in attendance.
- Monday, February 20-Friday, February 24: NO SCHOOL! February Midwinter Break
- Monday, February 27: SCHOOL RESUMES. All students return to school.
- Friday April 6- Friday April 13: NO SCHOOL! Spring Break (including Good Friday, Easter and Passover)
- Monday, April 16: SCHOOL RESUMES. All students return to school.
- Monday, May 28: NO SCHOOL! Memorial Day
- Thursday, June 7: NO SCHOOL! School holiday
- Friday, June 22: High School only: Select schools closed due to Regents rating
- Monday, June 27: LAST DAY OF SCHOOL
Note: According to the Department of Education:The School Year Calendar mandates that school sessions begin for all students on Thursday, September 8, 2011 and includes a Midwinter Recess (Monday, February 20 through Friday, February 24, 2012). It reflects that on Tuesday, November 8, 2011, and Thursday, June 7, 2012, students in all five boroughs will not be in attendance, but schools in all five boroughs will be scheduled for a Chancellor’s Conference Day for staff development related to the Regents High Learning Standards and Assessments.
