Ah, Brooklyn, home to so many stars, both past and present.

See a hundred or more of them memorialized on Brooklyn Botanic Garden's Celebrity Path, tucked almost as an afterthought between the beautiful, almost academic Shakespeare Garden and the lyrical Japanese Pond and Hill Garden.

Although contemporary Brooklyn author Paul Auster is an honoree on Celebrity Path, many of the names inscribed on these flagstones are old-timers from the 1940s and 1950s, when people born and educated in working-class Brooklyn made it big-time on the national stage. More than a few were graduates of such Brooklyn public schools as Erasmus High School and Brooklyn College.
