2. August "Summer Streets"

Bike or walk all the way to Central Park from the Brooklyn Bridge, with no traffic, for a few hours today. What a chance! Learn more.

3. Battle of Brooklyn Events: Revolutionary War Re-Enactments, Parades, More

Attend a week long series of special events celebrating the anniversary of the Battle of Brooklyn, billed as the " Largest Battle of the Revolutionary War." 


4. Brooklyn Bridge Park & Prospect Park Events

Brooklyn Bridge Park: Right over the Brooklyn Bridge is a wonderful park with tons of educational, family friendly, and fun cultural events. You can rent a bike, have a glass of wine, see an outdoor movie, take a ferry to Williamsburg, go kayaking and more from this waterside park near DUMBO. Need Directions?   Where to eat?

Brooklyn's gem. This is  a great place to spend Thursday, Friday or Saturday night in August, until the season ends mid month. Nearly free events are held in Prospect Park's band shell, where the Celebrate Brooklyn! series regularly draws crowds of thousands to a richly varied program of music, dance, and film.  

9. Children's Museum Hosts Food Festival for Kids

The Brooklyn Children's Museum hosts a weekend food festival for kids, complete with sweets, cooking demos of healthful foods and meet-the-kiddie-cookbook-author events. Cute, family fun.

10. Explore Nature: Tour Jamaica Bay with the Park Rangers

Jamaica Bay is one of New York City's unsung resources. It's a national park, with tons to do. Find out what, where, and how things are going to improve here in coming years. Bring your kayak gear, too!
