Question: Where Can You Go Ice Skating Outdoors in Brooklyn?
Answer: There are two outdoor ice rinks in Brooklyn...and possibly a third to open in 2014-15.
1. Prospect Park: You can go ice skating in Prospect Park Brooklyn at the newly opened Le Frak Center at Lakeside, at the site of the old Wollman Rink in Prospect Park. It's a beautiful a year-round "destination for recreation, relaxation, and events." Opening date: 12/20/2013.
2. McCarren Pool/ Rink: Also, the McCarren Park Pool in Williamsburg is getting a winter makeover as the McCarren Ice Rink. It's at 76 Lorimer Street, behind the Play Center on Loimer Street between Driggs and Bayard Streets. The rink opened Friday, November 15, 2013 through Saturday, January 4, 2014. Adults: $8.00, $5 students. Seniors (60 & older): $5. Children (12 & under): $4.00/ Skate Rental: $5.
3. Maybe, a future rink at Restoration Plaza in Bedford-Stuyvesant. In November, 2013, the Wall St. Journal reported that the Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration Corporation and the Bed-Stuy Gateway Business Improvement District were working on re-opening the long-closed ice rink at Restoration Plaza on Fulton Street.
Manhattan: Skaters who are desperate for a spin on the ice might check out places to go ice skating in Manhattan, including elegant Rockefeller Center and wonderful Central Park, and a couple of indoor rinks "deep," as they say, "in Brooklyn."
