For decades, Brooklyn residents and guests headed to the old Wollman Rink in Prospect Park. The park rink is being renovated into a new facility, Lakeside. Is it ready? And, what is it?

Answer: There's both bad news and good news about ice skating in Brooklyn, New York.

Unfortunately, there will be no ice skating in Prospect Park Brooklyn until the winter of 2013 at the earliest.

Due to construction, the Prospect Park Wollman Rink has been closed, permanently. It will NOT be open for ice skating in winter 2012-13.

Fare thee well, old Wollman Rink in Brooklyn.

But here's the good news! Construction has begun on the new and improved facility, renamed Lakeside. It promises to offer bigger and better ice skating facilities. And it will be a year-round "destination for recreation, relaxation, and events."
