Earth Week in Prospect Park

Earth Day may officially be on April 22, but Prospect Park is celebrating all things eco-friendly all week long. Do the earth some good, and check out one of these green events: They're suitable for kids and adults alike.

All activities will take place at the Audubon Center (by the Lincoln Road/Ocean Avenue park entrance).

Wednesday, April 23

4pm:
Catch a free film screening of the Emmy Award-winning "Planet Earth: Seasonal Forests." The beautifully shot movie, produced by the BBC, is 44 minutes long.

Thursday, April 24

1-3pm:
Get creative during two hours of Earth Week Crafts, a kid-friendly art session involving natural and recycled materials.

3pm:
Take a Discover Tour to learn about Prospect Park's historic past. You'll be given a pair of binoculars to better see the park's many assets on this free tour led by Audubon naturalists.

Friday, April 25

2-3pm:
Celebrate Arbor Day with a special tree-centric Children's Story Time.

3-4pm:
Follow up all of those tree stories with the guided Tree Walk, and you'll have the opportunity to see some of Prospect Park's finest leafy specimens.

Saturday, April 26

Saturday marks the park's full-blown "B'EarthDay Bash" in honor of the sixth anniversary of the Prospect Park Audubon Center and the birthdays of John James Audubon, Frederick Olmsted, and James T. Stranahan.

1-3pm:
Create your own natural journal at this Children's Crafts Session.

2pm:
The afternoon gets festive with a special musical performance by Lloyd Miller of the Deedle Deedle Dees and friends.

3-4pm:
Take a Discover Tour to learn about Prospect Park's historic past. You'll be given a pair of binoculars to use on this free tour led by a senior Audubon naturalist.

4pm:
Feast on free birthday cake.

5-8pm:
Jessica Baker's latest exhibit, Leaf and Circle, will be celebrated with live music at a three-hour Artist's Reception.

Sunday, April 27

1-4pm:
Get your bikes ready for spring at the free Bicycle Tune-Up Center, where you can get tune-ups, bike maintenance tips, and more.

2-3pm:
Looking for changes you can make to help the environment? Don't miss this hour-long "Think Locally!" lecture. The presentation will include information on bioregionalism and tips on living locally.

3pm:
Take a guided tour of the Midwood forest as part of the "Together Green" initiative. Help to clean the area while learning about its history and bright future.
