Guide Review - Grimaldi's Pizzeria
Traditional New York pizza is made with a thin crust baked in a coal-fired brick oven. The result is not only deliciously light--it's addicting. This might explain the popularity of Grimaldi's Pizzeria, a historic restaurant located in DUMBO, Brooklyn, near the Brooklyn Bridge. At Grimaldi's, the coal oven takes center stage, and you can watch as pizza chefs prepare your pie before your eyes.
Grimaldi's has a history that dates back to the 1940s, when Patsy Grimaldi, at the age of 10, began working at his uncle's restaurant. Grimaldi went on to open his own pizzerias, and nearly 70 years later, his influence on the New York pizza scene (and yes, there is a pizza scene!) remains strong.
I'm something of a pizza purist, so I recommend the margherita pie with extra basil. A large will cost you $14, and a small is $12, but additional toppings are extra. The restaurant also serves beer and house wines.
Whatever you do, don't ask for a slice! The Grimaldi's staff is proud of its strict "pies only" policy. Trust me, though, one slice of this fantastic pizza is never enough.
