The underrated New York City borough of Queens has a famous subway, too. It's the number 7, highly rated not only because of its final destination, but because along the way every neighborhood seems to represent a different corner of the world. So, what's the best subway in Brooklyn for tourists to take?
So here are two.
The Q and B Trains
Whether you live in Brooklyn or are a visitor, for fabulous views, you simply cannot beat the Q and B train route over the Manhattan Bridge. It's three or four minutes of gorgeousness. Breathtaking. And hilariously, most people riding on these trains do it every day, twice a day, so nobody even bothers to notice. Instead, they're reading the paper, snoozing, or (because there's connectivity on the bridge), they're madly doing email and making phone calls. ("Hey. Can't talk long. On the Manhattan Bridge...")
But if you do bother to look out the window, you can see the Brooklyn Bridge, the Statue of Liberty, New York Harbor.
The Train to Coney Island
And then there's whatever darn train might be going to Coney Island. At the moment, it's the N train. It's about a half hour ride from Brooklyn Heights or Park Slope, and while the view of Brooklyn's neighborhoods passing by is OK, it's nothing to write home about. But wait, oh wait, until the very end of the line, the renovated Stillwell Avenue stop. Just thinking about how this above ground subway swerves around a corner as the Atlantic Ocean, the Cyclone rollercoaster and Coney Island's other amusement rides come into views gives a person goosebumps. You gotta see it to get it.
The best subway rides in Brooklyn? The Q, B and whatever is going to Coney Island.
But of course, that's just one person's opinion.
